Tonight
Tonight's duty pharmacies for all five districts of the Republic of Cyprus, taken from the Ministry of Health rota and refreshed daily. A duty pharmacy is open until 23:00 from May to September and until 22:00 from October to April, and its pharmacist stays on call until 08:00 for urgent prescriptions. So at 2am you still see last night's list, which is the right one.
Republic of Cyprus rota only. The Famagusta list covers the free area (Paralimni, Deryneia, Sotira and nearby villages); pharmacies in the north are not on it and are not listed here.
Names and addresses stay in Greek, exactly as the Ministry publishes them, because that is what the street sign and the pharmacy window say. The grey line under each is a Latin spelling to help you read it or type it into a map.
How the duty rota works
01
What hours is a duty pharmacy open?
The pharmacy opening-hours Order (K.D.P. 210/2022) sets two seasons. From 1 May to 30 September the duty pharmacy is open until 23:00; from 1 October to 30 April, until 22:00. After that the pharmacist stays on call until 08:00 the next morning for an urgent prescription.
| Day | Winter, 1 Oct to 30 Apr (now) | Summer, 1 May to 30 Sep |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday | 13:30 to 15:00 and 18:30 to 22:00 | 13:30 to 16:00 and 19:30 to 23:00 |

Outside these slots the duty pharmacy keeps ordinary pharmacy hours. The fifteen pharmacy holidays in Annex III of the Order get Sunday hours: New Year, Epiphany, Clean Monday, 25 March, 1 April, 1 May, Holy Saturday, Easter Monday and Tuesday, Holy Spirit Monday, 15 August, 1 October, 28 October, and 25 and 26 December.
02
Who decides which pharmacy is on duty?
The Pharmacy Council publishes the rota by notice under the pharmacy opening-hours Order (K.D.P. 210/2022, amended by 335/2024 and 51/2026). It is compiled with the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association, and the Ministry of Health's Pharmaceutical Services post it as one spreadsheet per district.
Every pharmacy takes its turn, and the list, drawn up twice a year, names a pharmacist and a date. The current files cover 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. This page re-reads those files every morning, which is why the list above changes on its own when a new period starts.
One thing that trips up other lists: the notice text on the Ministry page lags the season. In past winters it kept showing the expired summer notice for months. The hours themselves come from the Order, which does not change with the notice, so that is what my table uses.
- Every pharmacy posts tonight's list. Before closing, each pharmacy must put the names, addresses and phones of the duty pharmacies in a lit window, with the duty pharmacists' after-hours numbers.
- The list can change. When a pharmacy on the rota has to close for a while (leave, renovation work), the Registrar of Pharmacy arranges another pharmacy to cover its duty days, and the closed pharmacy must post the replacement's address and phone on its front. So a call before you drive is never wasted.
- A missing medicine gets written on the prescription. If no duty pharmacy has what you need, the pharmacist marks the prescription "Μη διαθέσιμο φαρμακευτικό προϊόν" (product not available), stamps and signs it, and adds the date and time. Another pharmacist may then open to fill it. This does not apply to controlled drugs.
03
What is the after-hours phone for?
Once the duty pharmacy closes (23:00 in summer, 22:00 from October to April), the pharmacist must stay available until 08:00 to fill any prescription judged urgent. The number to ring is posted at the pharmacy, and the Ministry's file lists it as the pharmacist's home phone.
I print that number only for tonight, next to each pharmacy, and only as the Ministry lists it. It exists so you can reach the pharmacist in the night, not for general questions in the daytime. For a sick child at midnight with a prescription in hand, ring it before you get in the car, so the pharmacist is at the door when you arrive.
The on-call duty is about urgent prescriptions. If you need advice about whether a symptom is serious, that is a doctor's question, and the section on emergencies below says where to take it.
04
Do you pay more at a duty pharmacy at night?
Not for the medicine. The Order that sets duty hours says nothing about a fee, and the pharmacists' own Code of Ethics (K.D.P. 350/2021, reg. 35) caps the price of any medicine at the Ministry of Health's maximum retail price, with no night or Sunday exception.
The same code (reg. 36) lets a pharmacist price their own services freely. Opening the door at 2am for one prescription is a service, so a fee for that is not ruled out, but no scale exists anywhere official.
Some websites quote a night fee of 2 to 5 euros. I could not find it in any law, Order or Association rule, so I would not budget on it either way. If it matters, ask on the phone before you drive.
05
Does a GeSY prescription work at a duty pharmacy?
At a GeSY-contracted pharmacy you pay a 1 euro co-payment per medicine, and GeSY's rule has no time-of-day exception. But GeSY only covers pharmacies contracted with the HIO, and no official source says every duty pharmacy is one.
- Step 1Check the pharmacy first. GeSY's provider search lists contracted pharmacies by district.
- Step 2Ask when you ring. "Do you take GeSY prescriptions?" is a normal question and saves a wasted trip.
- Good to knowThe rota and GeSY are separate systems. The Order that sets the rota never mentions GeSY, and gesy.org.cy never mentions duty pharmacies.
The co-payment and the annual cap are explained in my GeSY guide.
06
How many pharmacies are on duty per district?
I counted the five district files for the period 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. The spread matters more than the total: in the smaller districts one of tonight's pharmacies can be a long drive from you.
| District | On duty per night | Pharmacies in the rotation | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nicosia | 6 to 7 | 191 | Spread across Strovolos, Engomi, Lakatamia, Latsia, Aglantzia, Dali and the centre. |
| Limassol | 4 to 5 | 163 | Mostly Limassol town, with Germasogeia, Mesa Geitonia, Kato Polemidia and Ypsonas in the mix. |
| Larnaca | 3 | 71 | Larnaca town plus Aradippou, Oroklini, Livadia, Kiti, Meneou and Dromolaxia. |
| Paphos | 2 to 3 | 59 | On 182 of 212 nights one of them is in Polis Chrysochous; the others are mostly in Paphos town, Prodromi, Kato Paphos or Geroskipou. |
| Famagusta (free area) | 2 | 32 | One in Paralimni every night; the other in Sotira, Deryneia, Liopetri, Frenaros or Avgorou. None in Ayia Napa or Protaras this period. |

When it is not a pharmacy problem
Breathing trouble, chest pain, a seizure, a child who is floppy or hard to wake: call 112 or 199. Both are free, work 24 hours, and the Cyprus Police route them to the control centre of the district you call from.
For anything that needs a doctor tonight but not an ambulance, the public hospitals' emergency departments are open around the clock. Their direct numbers are on my Cyprus emergency numbers card, which also explains why the pharmacy numbers some lists print (1402, 11892) are wrong: there is no national duty-pharmacy phone line. CYTA does run a text lookup: send PHARM plus a district code (NI, LI, LA, PA or FA) to 1000. CYTA does not state the price of that text.

Questions people ask
Which pharmacy is open tonight in Cyprus?
Each district has its own duty pharmacies every night, set by the Ministry of Health rota: five or six in Nicosia, four or five in Limassol, three in Larnaca, two or three in Paphos and two in the free Famagusta area. The list on this page is refreshed daily from the Ministry's files.
What is the difference between a night pharmacy and a duty pharmacy?
In Cyprus they are the same thing: a duty pharmacy is the pharmacy the Ministry of Health rota assigns to cover the midday break and the evening, with its pharmacist on call through the night. Greek searches use εφημερεύοντα (on duty), διανυκτερεύοντα (open overnight) and the Ministry's own word, διημερεύοντα. The duty pharmacy covers the midday break and the evening, and its pharmacist stays on call through the night for prescriptions.
Is there a phone number for duty pharmacies in Cyprus?
There is no national duty-pharmacy phone line. Numbers such as 1402 and 11892 that some lists give are wrong: 1402 is the National Addictions Authority help line. Each duty pharmacy has its own phone, and the Ministry of Health also lists an after-hours number for the pharmacist on call. CYTA offers a text lookup: send PHARM plus your district code (NI, LI, LA, PA or FA) to 1000.
Can I get medicine at 3am in Cyprus?
For an urgent prescription, yes: the duty pharmacist stays on call until 08:00 and must fill any prescription judged urgent. Call the after-hours phone listed for tonight's duty pharmacy, or the number posted at the pharmacy. For an emergency, call 112 or 199.
What time do duty pharmacies close in Cyprus?
At 23:00 from 1 May to 30 September and at 22:00 from 1 October to 30 April, under the pharmacy opening-hours Order (K.D.P. 210/2022). After that the pharmacist is on call until 08:00 for urgent prescriptions.
Do duty pharmacies charge extra at night?
Not for the medicine: its price is capped at the Ministry of Health maximum retail price whatever the time (Pharmaceutical Association Code of Ethics, K.D.P. 350/2021, reg. 35). Pharmacists may price their own services freely, but no official night fee or scale exists.
Why does the list still show yesterday's pharmacies after midnight?
Because the rota day runs until 08:00 the next morning. At 2am on a Sunday, the pharmacist on call is Saturday's duty pharmacist, so the page keeps Saturday's list until 08:00.
Is there a duty pharmacy in Ayia Napa or Protaras?
Not in the Ministry of Health rota for 1 October 2026 to 30 April 2027. The free Famagusta area has two duty pharmacies a night: one in Paralimni every night and one in Sotira, Deryneia, Liopetri, Frenaros or Avgorou.
