About Volha

I moved to Cyprus in August 2022 with my husband and our three children, and I have been finding my way through everyday newcomer life here ever since. The guides I write are the ones I wish I had been handed in my first week, when nobody could tell me which queue to join or which form actually mattered.

Having three children of different ages meant I went through the Cyprus education system almost all at once: finding a nursery place, weighing state versus private school, enrolling children who did not yet speak Greek, and sorting university registration. That is the part of relocation I know first-hand, and it is the part I write about most honestly.

I also work in the Cyprus insurance industry, so the practical side of settling in — health cover, GeSY, the paperwork everyone puts off — is familiar territory rather than something I researched for an afternoon. On New to Cyprus I write the family-relocation and living guides; the legal, tax and immigration detail is reviewed by a licensed Cyprus advocate before it goes live.

What I write about

  • Family relocation to Cyprus
  • Schools and education (state vs. private)
  • Nursery and kindergarten placement
  • Enrolling non-Greek-speaking children
  • University registration
  • Cost of living and everyday settling-in
  • Healthcare and GeSY basics

How this author's work is checked

Volha writes the relocation and living guides from lived experience. Pages that touch legal, tax or immigration rules are reviewed by a licensed Cyprus advocate at Koufettas Law before publication. New to Cyprus is not a law firm, and its guides are general information, not legal or immigration advice.
