Quick answer
In Cyprus, dial 112 or 199 for police, fire or ambulance. Both are free and both go to the same Police control centre in the district you call from. Report a forest fire on 1407 and a sea or air rescue on 1441. The ambulance control centre also answers directly on 22887171. Power faults: EAC on 1800. Water faults have a 24-hour line per district. Domestic violence: 1440, free and 24 hours. There is no national phone line for the duty pharmacy; the Ministry of Health publishes the list online. Every number checked on its operator's site on 26 September 2026.

What is the emergency number in Cyprus?
Two numbers, one service. The Cyprus Police state that a call to 112 or 199 is routed automatically to the Police message control centre of the district you are calling from, which sends police, the fire service or an ambulance. Use them only for a real emergency. Two specialist lines sit beside them: 1407 for a forest fire and 1441 for anyone in trouble at sea or in the air.
There is no separate mountain-rescue number: in the Troodos, call 112 or 199 and the Fire Service's rescue unit is sent. The Police non-emergency line 1460 answers on weekdays only, 07:00 to 15:00.

Which hospital do I call, and how do I find a pharmacy at night?
These are the public hospitals of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO/OKYPY), with the switchboard each one publishes; where a hospital also prints a direct line for its emergency department, it is in the detail. For an ambulance, 112 first. The ambulance control centre on 22887171 is the direct line the SHSO gives next to it.

Who do I call for a power cut or a burst water pipe?
Electricity faults go to EAC Distribution, whoever sends your bill. Water faults go to the water and sewerage authority (EOA) of your district; since 1 July 2024 five EOAs have replaced the old water boards, and each keeps a 24-hour faults line. The water guide and the EAC guide explain accounts, bills and deposits.

Which helplines can I call, and when are they open?
Only 1440 runs round the clock. The others keep hours, and I have printed them, because a line that rings out at 3 a.m. is worse than knowing to call 112.

Useful numbers for newcomers: immigration, embassies, airports
Not emergencies, but the numbers newcomers look up most. District immigration offices each have their own lines; the immigration offices guide lists them. For your embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs keeps the diplomatic list current, so I point to it rather than freeze a list of numbers that will go out of date.

What to say when you call 112 in Cyprus
The Police ask that 112 and 199 be kept for situations where police, fire or an ambulance must be sent at once. When you call, give these in order and stay on the line:
- 1
Where you are. Town or village, street, house or building number. On a motorway, the direction and the nearest exit.
- 2
What happened. Fire, accident, someone not breathing, a break-in.
- 3
How many people are hurt, and whether anyone is still in danger.
- 4
Your phone number, in case the line drops.
- 5
Stay on the line until the operator ends the call.

What I left off the card, and why
A wrong number on a printed card is worse than a missing one. I only printed numbers I could read on the operator's own website. These are the ones you will see on other lists that did not pass:
Poison information 1401. It appears in a 2017 government leaflet and a municipal list, but no current Ministry of Health or hospital page states it, and a Cypriot news investigation reported the line going unanswered. For a poisoning, call 112.
Roadside breakdown (Cyprus Automobile Association). The number repeated online is not on the Association's own site. For a breakdown, use the assistance line on your insurance certificate or rental contract; for an accident with injuries, 112.
Missing children 116 000 and the narcotics line 1498. Both are reported by EU and municipal bodies, but I could not read them on the operator's own current page. I will add them when I can.
A duty-pharmacy phone number. There isn't one nationally. 1402 is the addiction help line and 1455 is the Family Planning Association's sexual-health line; lists that give either for pharmacies are wrong.
Anything in the north. The card covers the Republic of Cyprus only. Services in the Turkish-occupied area are not listed.

Questions newcomers ask
What is the emergency number in Cyprus?
112 or 199. Both are free and both are routed to the Cyprus Police message control centre in the district you call from, which sends police, the fire service or an ambulance.
Is 112 or 199 better in Cyprus?
Neither. The Cyprus Police state that both numbers go automatically to the same district control centre. 112 is the one to remember because it also works across the EU.
How do I call an ambulance in Cyprus?
Dial 112. The State Health Services Organisation also publishes a direct line to its ambulance control centre, 22887171.
How do I find a pharmacy open at night in Cyprus?
The Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health publish the duty pharmacies for each district online at moh.gov.cy/phs. There is no national phone number for it. My night pharmacies page shows tonight's list for every district, refreshed daily from that rota.
Who do I call for a power cut in Cyprus?
EAC Distribution on 1800, or +357 22201800 from a foreign phone. It handles faults whichever supplier bills you.
Is there a 24-hour helpline for domestic violence in Cyprus?
Yes. SPAVO's 1440 is free and answers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Psychologists and social workers take the calls.
What is the phone number of the immigration office in Cyprus?
The Civil Registry and Migration Department switchboard in Nicosia is 22 308808. Each district immigration office has its own lines, listed in the immigration offices guide on this site.
